August Twofer Challenge

I love the intriguing stamping opportunity called "Twofer Card Challenge" which requires the use of the exact same stamp or die to make two cards with distinctly different designs for two different occasions. The August Challenge is called named "Nautical" and I used a Stamps Happen wood mount stamp named “A Friendly Light.” I goggled to see if this stamp line is still available but could not find it. I did find assorted stamps on Ebay AND a website for artist D. Morgan, who made a whole line of beautiful scenery stamps which included her “signature touch” of delicate handwritten sentiments many years ago. Stop in HERE to see her amazing artwork, with prints at very affordable prices.

My first card is a sympathy card. I stamped the image onto white card stock, trimmed it down to size, then colored it. I usually use alcohol markers but thought that a dawn sky would work well for a sympathy card, and would fit well with the inside sentiment. So, used Aquarelle Watercolor pencils, a Dove blender pen, and added a few highlights with a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. Added “light” strips of white and yellow vellum, fussy-cutting around the top of the lighthouse and taping the vellum strips in place. I also cut a small slit in the card front along the left side of the framed area, allowing me to slip the vellum beneath it so as not to block the delicate lettering. When finished I layered the stamped image onto the card front, trimmed the ends of the vellum strips, and put the rest of the card together. The sentiment on the front and inside are both computer-generated. (And the sweet little anchor on the inside was made with a paper punch that I picked up at JoAnn's last year for $2. Love the look of it punched in silver paper and tied in place with a scrap of think jute.)

For the second “Adventure” card I stamped the image onto an earthy blue-grey card stock, and used Spectrum Noir markers, a white colored pencil, white gel pen, and fine-line black pen, and a lot of experimenting to color it! I wanted the card to depict a “blustery day“ (love that Winnie the Pooh quote!) and think I accomplished that. I used scraps of patterned paper from my scrapbook stash, plus made a little “boat knot” to accent the card front. (I googled “Nautical Knots” and found a nice diagram of knots HERE. I made a few square knots (fairly easy) then decided that I wanted to try a Carrick Bend knot and found a  video tutorial that helped immensely HERE.) The little star embellishment was made with some scrap papers, a little anchor from a strip of scrapbook paper, a star punch, and several different sized circle punches. The sentiment on the front of the card is from a Beccy’s Place digi set named “Walk By Faith” and the inside sentiment is from a Lil of the Valley digi set named “Quotables” appears to no longer be available. Am entering this card into several challenges including Outlaws Tuesday Color Challenge (I used beige, plus red and a few shades of blue. For the twist- how about a creative twist of jute?)
