It’s the 15th of the month, so
I’m sharing a DT card for the challenge at QKR Stampede. Stop by the challenge, which is
always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired
to enter a card or two yourself?
Don’t these sweet little chicks carefully fussy-cut from the flock, look adorable poised
on a colorful Easter sentiment and dyed egg? (Note- after accidentally clipping one of the spindly legs, I opted to clip all of them off and then sketch them lightly onto the card with a pencil. When they were positioned where desired, I added shading with a marker, then drew over the pencil lines with a fine-tipped marker.) I like the way the card turned out, especially their fluffy feather tails! Once again my trusty white gel pen helps add highlights
and texture to the front sentiment and little chicks.
I’m entering this card into
several challenges including Outlawz Thursday: TicTacToe (second row-Animal,
flower, Sentiment/Title)
An added note- One comment reminded me to share of a great tip I learned years ago that helps make fussy cutting a lot easier; before cutting, reinforce the underside of any small or intricate areas with a few strips of clear tape. Then, use a small, sharp pair of scissors to trim the excess. (I prefer EK Tools Cutter Bee Precision Tip- 5 inch.) For this job, it was still a bit difficult. Since I plan to make more of these cute cards, next time I might try clipping the legs off and then adding them to the sentiment with light pencil sketching and markers before attaching the feathers and little fluffy bodies.

This is my second entry Power Poppy’s Challenge where the current theme is named “Clean Slate.” Since CAS cards are… well… challenging for me, I am not sure if this card will even qualify because I decided it looked a bit blah with a solid background. So I added a shabby chic floral patterned paper that peeks through the lovely spray of blooms. I have always liked coloring on vellum. This time, after coloring the digi on the underside of the vellum, I added details to the image on the top side with my white gel pen, making the petals, leaves and berries POP!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including The Paper Shelter: Lace and Flowers (the shabby chic background looks a bit like lace.)

Several years ago this playful elephant stamp was a freebie with a purchase at the on-line store Scrapbook.com. His bike basket is filled with fall leaves, but I decided to use him on a Valentine’s Day card so I covered them with a flurry of puffy heart stickers. The front sentiment is from a sheet of Gina K’s, “mixed messages” in white and black strips. They are easy to use, reasonably priced, and would also work on journals!

What a fabulous set of cards from fun to gorgeous back to fun. Love them all Cathy.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I love how you fussy cut the chicks for the card! What a clever idea. Incredible positioning of them onto the sentiment - I know that took both time and patience. So glad you are part of the team. :-D
ReplyDeletePretty cards and the Easter one is adorable, many thanks for sharing with us at this weeks Allsorts challenge.

Those little chicks are adorable and how in the world did you fussy cut their legs? Kudos to you and your steady hand! Thanks for playing along at the Jan's Digi Stamps Challenge. We appreciate the support.

Donna, thanks for your kind words... and for your question about how I fussy-cut the legs. Years ago a friend shared a tip that helps prevent fussy-cutting accidents. The solution is this- before cutting, reinforce the underside of any small or intricate areas with a few strips of clear tape. Then, use a small, sharp pair of scissors to trim away the excess. (I prefer EK Tools Cutter Bee Precision Tip, 5 inch.) Since I started doing this, I seldom have oopsies. Yay!

Hi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI completely identify with your feelings about clean and simple cards. They make me so uncomfortable! They just feel naked to me, and I MUST add more! I love how good you are with vellum! Your flowers are gorgeous and your white accents bring them to life. Thanks for sharing this with us at The Paper Shelter!
Linda
Wow! What a wonderful trio of cards, Kathy! Those darling little chickies with their soft feathers and bright sunshiny colors, dancing around the Easter greetings is a fabulous use of that image. Like you, I enjoy cropping digitals and making something more out of them. All your cards are lovely, and I'm grateful to see the other 2 beauties, as well. Thanks for the inspiration and for submitting your creation at Jan’s Digi Stamp Challenges . I hope to see more of your designs soon.
