New DT Gig!

Last year I met a talented young artist named Sherry West via her FB page. I fell in love with her adorable images and was thrilled to win a few of them through contests on her FB page HERE. She has an  Etsy shop HERE and is also making a name for herself as an author. Her first children’s book, named “It’s Raining Cats Dogs And Pollywogs,” quickly sold out the first run on Amazon last Christmas. How exciting is that?! I was honored when she recently asked me to join her DT.  My schedule is pretty busy right now, but I also wanted to help this wonderful young artist so I said “Yes”… and these are the first two cards I’ve made in that capacity.

The first card features her newest work of art which was recently named in a contest on her FB page. Meet Princess Petunia Penelope Posey Poppi Posh (I call her Princess P for short!) I had fun coloring her and adding a bit of fun with wiggly eyes! The cloudy sky was created with a cloud template cut from scrap paper, decorative chalks and a makeup sponge and the sentiments are both freebies. I'm entering this card into several challenges including Power Poppy's Find Your Inner Happy (Princess P looks like she is happy in every cell of her cute little body!  I'm going to strive for that today.) and The Paper Shelter's Girl Power (I'd say that a pig named Princess followed by five other names must feel pretty powerful.) The Paper Shelter- #419 Girl Power

The second card features a sweet digi named, appropriately, Sweet Spring, that was recently provided as a gift through the Kit & Clowder FB page. Sherry was thrilled that offering this freebie dramatically increased the number of her FB page members to over 1500! This digi actually comes with three slightly different versions of the cute image. I used a scrap of floral wallpaper from a sample book that I’ve had in my stash for… well… a few decades! The sentiments are computer generated and a bit of bling was added with pink gems plus a layer of Stickles on her wings and o the the little bumblebee wings.

I wanted to make a card for the newly posted Snippets challenge (which I always love because it means that I get to use all the little bits and pieces that I hate to throw away.) So I dug through my scrap box and found a nice sized piece of a wavy water paper and several scraps, plus bits of wonderful purple document plastic! If you follow my blog you’ll be familiar with plastic document folders as they are one of my favorite accessories! These wonderful items come in a pack of assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores and sometimes dollar stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and are more translucent.  The plastic is also very easy to fussy-cut with a sharp scissor. And I try not to waste the tiniest scrap!
I colored the sweet penguin digi and set it aside. I next used two techniques to make the pool ring look “real.” First, I cut the largest scrap of the wavy water background paper into a 4 x 5¼ inch rectangle and adhered it to a white A2 card front. I fussy cut the pool ring from the penguin digi and gently taped it back together on the flip side. I then laid the pool ring atop the card front and lightly sketched the water ripples onto the pool ring. When finished I used three shades of blue Spectrum Noir alcohol markers to color the ripples to match the background and used a few teal-colored markers to color the polka dots. A thin line of white gel pen a short distance from the edges of the pool ring and immediately smudged with my fingers added the illusion of a highlight (and a touch of realism.) I then attached a scrap of a purple plastic document folder slightly larger than the pool ring with a few touches of snail adhesive and trimmed the plastic to size. Lastly, I adhered the penguin back snuggly into his pool ring, taped him securely in place and then attached the pool ring to the card with foam tape. I cut a few extra scraps of the purple plastic into stars that I added to the front and inside of the card to add a little more color to the background (and to not waste any of these wonderful scraps.)

Adorable Duckies

It’s Friday, so time for another challenge at QKR Stampede!  Stop by the challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself? My DT card features two cute digi images and from Eureka Stamps and several items from my stash including the boxed birthday card that includes front and inside sentiment. All I needed to do is added the duckies and a few other embellies and it was good to go.  I do so love the sweet little duckies and wanted to make the top one look like he's kicking up sparkly hearts like he’d kick up splashes in a spring mud puddle. So fun! Am entering this card into several challenges including Simon Says Wednesday Challenge-Whatever the Weather  (Ducks love to play in the rain or sunshine… and I’m guessing probably even in the snow!)
Supplies:
·    Front Digs- Eureka Stamps (Ducky Dancing digital) and (Ducky Doing Splits digital)
·    Card base is from a box of Birthday cards rescued from our local Goodwill
·    Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

Bugaboo Stamps- Things with Wings

I’m creating a packet of cards as a thank you gift for our pastor since he is such a wonderful encourager! Figured that he’d like the sentiment in this card, and also the vintage sheet music used as a base. My hubby’s grandmother was a church choir director in the 1940s. After her death, we discovered boxes full of choir books in the attic of her home. Most of the items are dated in the early 1900s and many are torn and showing signs of age. However, they work beautifully on cards.
 Supplies:
·    Digis- Our Daily Bread Grunge Cross & Grunge Background (company no longer in business)
·    Inside  sentiment- Eureka Digital Image  (Be Still and Know)
·    Vintage sheet music, black ink pad, gold pigment ink, gold embossing powder and gold photo corners from my stash

I needed to make one more card for the Outlaws Sunday Challenge is called “Rose Garden” so I dug out one of my favorite rose stamp sets- a wood mount from Posh Impressions- and got to work. I don’t need Sympathy cards very often, but only have a few on hand, so created this one with a little fussy-cutting and foam tape. The final touch was to add a delicate vellum butterfly from a free set that I found on a website a few years ago. I like printing them on vellum to add a bit of translucent realism. Just needed to sketch the butterfly’s body and antennae with a fine-line Sharpie black marker, add the sentiment and the card is done. Am entering this card into a few other challenges including the Butterfly Challenge (it features two colors- burgundy roses and veridian butterfly wings.)

Supplies:
·    Rose images- Posh Impressions (company is no longer in business)
·    Colored with ink pads from my stash

Beach Hut Holiday

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge Blog where challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out!
The sponsor this week is Sheepski Designs and I used a digi named "Beach Hut Holiday” on my DT card.  I used an upcycled calendar page as my background, plus added some additional color with circles of yellow vellum and a pink plastic document folder. (These wonderful items come in a pack of assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores and sometimes dollar stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and are more translucent.  The plastic is also easy to fussy-cut with a sharp pair of scissors.)
Right now local college students would be on Spring break, possibly on a beach like this one, if travel wasn't an issue due to the Coronavirus. I cannot wait until this pandemic is over and we all get our lives back. Then... I think that a beach hut somewhere just might have my name on it! Anyone want to join me?
Supplies:
·    Digi- Sheepski Designs (Beach Hut Holiday)
·    Sentiments- Computer Generated
·    Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·    Upcycled calendar page, yellow vellum and pink plastic document folder from my stash

A Perfect Time to Craft 2020-Anything Goes- Challenge #3-2020

It feels like winter is going on forever this year! I’m looking forward to spring rains and this cute Bugaboo bear makes me smile. I especially love his sweet umbrella. A rain of cupcakes would definitely wash away the winter blahs! And isn’t the Dr. Seuss quote a perfect fit? I’ve had it in my files ever since taking some child development classes in college several decades ago. It always resonated with me because I personally really like fun that is funny!

My final card features a digi that I won from Scribbles a few months ago. When I saw the current challenge at Crafty Catz, I knew that I could use this great digi to make a card to fit the theme boys and their toys! A design on Pinterest caught my eye, and I revised it to make this card. The hardest part was finding the right sentiments, but a few Beccy’s Digi sets provided the perfect fit. My sweet hubby likes to create things with wood, so I think this is going to be his 60-something birthday card next month because... well... he's pretty awesome!

Trio of Cards

For this card, I used a sweet digi from a talented young artist named Sherry West. Sherry has an Etsy shop HERE a FB page HERE and is also making a name for herself as an author. Her first children’s book, named “It’s Raining Cats Dogs And Pollywogs,” quickly sold out the first run on Amazon last  Christmas. How exciting is that?!  The name of the image on this card is "Fairy Merry.” However, I wanted the Celtic Sentiment to show behind Merry, so when I fussy-cut around the digi, I clipped off her wings. I opted to make her look like an Irish maiden by coloring her beautiful tresses red. A layer of patterned vellum helps set her off against the sentiment. And a few shamrocks cut from patterned paper add even more Irish charm.

Supplies:
·    Digi- Sherry West (Fairy Merry)
·    Front Sentiment- Celtic Art Postcard (from my stash)
·    Inside sentiment- Desert Diva (Sending You Sunshine)
·    Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·    Clover patterned paper- Hobby Lobby
·    Foliage vellum from my stash

Cute Card Thursday- Challenge #624 Anything Goes

The Outlaws Sunday Challenge is called “Rose Garden” so I dug through my stamps to find a rose image that I haven’t used for a while. This wood mount stamp from an old Stampin’ Up set inspired me to do a bit of gold embossing and paper tearing. (I wasn't able to get a very good impression with the Hello stamp. It's an old wood-mount and I need to pull it off the wood and add some adhesive to it so I can use my MISTI. One by one I'm doing this to my older rubber stamps so that I can get brighter and cleaner image.)
Supplies:
·    Image- Stampin’ Up! wood mount stamp (not sure of the name of the set, I pulled it from the wood years ago. I do remember it’s from the late ’90s)
·    Front sentiment- Embossing Arts (the company is no longer in business)
·    Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·    Gold pigment ink and embossing powder- from my stash
·    Assorted background papers from my stash
