Double D's current challenge is "Sequins". I have a bunch of these little sparkly disks, but hardly ever use them. Mainly just because I forget about them! For this card, I stamped an old wood mount Peony stamp from Embossing Arts, and an even older butterfly from Hero Arts onto some REALLY old sheet music. (My hubby's grandmother was a church choir director. Years ago when helping clean the basement of the family homestead we discovered several boxes of aging sheet music and choir books. Love finding ways to use them!) After stamping and coloring the images with Tombow Markers, I glued light pink sequins onto the people petals, clear sequins onto the leaves, and tiny peach hearts onto the butterfly wings (actually, I think that they are actually confetti as they have no holes for sewing.) I also found some wonderful flower shaped sequins in a small treasure box that was my mothers. I added a yellow sequin to their middle making little blooms that I added to the tag and ribbon. Took a close up photo so that you can see all of the bling!
Note- The card looks a little cheesy in these photos. But in person, it is really quite lovely. I made this into an Easter card that we'll send to my amazing MIL later this Spring.
Am also entering it into a few other challenges that require either sparkle, decorations, or an uplifting sentiment.

The current butterfly challenge involves the letter P for color and theme. My card includes Pink and Pearls. It is also CAS (at least for me as I usually like to layer with color with patterns and blingy things!) So, entering it into the AAA challenge plus a few others. The butterfly is a die cut, with pink vellum lightly adhered to the backside. I love the way it makes the wings look wonderfully translucent. I've had the pearl flourishes for a while, just needed to piece a few together. But since they are sticky on the back it was pretty easy to do.

The current CAS-ual Friday challenge involves a sketch. I've never used sketches much, but am finding that they really do simplify card layouts. This one starts with three circles punched from a pale mint background paper with teeny daisies. I added a thin frame to each and then overlapped them to make the final card more visually appealing. After adhering the circles to the card front, I added a sentiment that I made on my computer and finished the card with some sparkly stickers that I've had in my stash for several years. The card went together quickly and is kinda fun.

A few years ago I bought Washi tape when I saw some on clearance but I seldom use it. Was a good thing that I pulled it out for this challenge because some of it no longer has any "stick" to it. (Might be the reason it was on clearance!) I was able to salvage enough strips to make a card. This one includes a wonderful coffee stamp (unmounted, am thinking maybe Uptown Stamps or SU) and the wonderful sentiment is a free digi from createwithtlc.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteWow! Kathy, your creativity blows me away!
ReplyDelete1) What a fantastically unique way to use sequins! I love sheet music - it seems to carry it's history right there in the paper! You've created a masterpiece with that one!
2) Oh boy, I really battle with CAS too! You've done a really great job, with just the right amount of 'extra' to make your card elegant and interesting
3) What a great way to interpret the sketch! (something else I'm not very good at!) Those little stickers look jelly-ish. Very cute
4) Love your sentiment and that gorgeous coffee cup! Really great use of washi tape!!
