myasperations 8-14-23

I love this pre-colored freebie at Scribbles Designs so much that I made two cards. The first, with a beautiful purple hydrangea background paper, features the entire sentiment. I added an exclamation point with a scrap of the hydrangea, plus printed off two copies of the large daisy in the middle of the “W” in the word “Flowers.” One was used to "dot" the exclamation point, and the other embellishes the inside sentiment.

I had some fun making the second card, with colored daisy background paper, by trimming the last word (You) from the digi, enlarging it, and moving it to the inside of the card. As with purple card, I added an exclamation point to the inside sentiment, but this time I printed off an extra copy of the letter “L” to create the top of the exclamation point. I again printed off one copy of the large daisy in the middle of the “W” in the word “Flowers” to "dot" the point, and printed off several copies of the daisy, reducing their size to create the three ‘period” punctuations on the front page.

I had fun making this sweet card, using a Dis Digis sentiment, and an step card base that I upcycled from an old card from a friend. I selected the digi because it includes a delicate little butterfly, which allows me to enter it in the current Butterfly Challenge (one of my favorites!), which is called “Pick a Row with your Butterfly.” I picked the middle row on the chart- Design paper/Flowers/Stepper Card. An added note- All the wonderful images in Di’s Digis shop are  50% off until September pops in. (This means this sweet dig and so many others are just $1.50 for a bit longer. So just hurry to Di’s Digi to nab the sale code and start shopping!)
I’m entering the card in several other challenges including Inspiration Station’s Photo (butterflies flitting among flowers),  and wecraftcards BINGO (first column), Outlawz’ Tuesday Color Photo inspiration (my card features three of the five  colors plus the twist), and My Happy Place (my card is inspired by Bunny Hop, a theme park in Germany built to delight very young children.)

myasperations 8-1-23

Earlier this year I stumbled upon a challenge named Park Hopping-My Happy Place. I was hooked almost immediately when I read “This challenge is ANYTHING GOES inspired by a theme park.” I’ve entered the challenge many times, and after winning a challenge the host, Makira, invited me to be a Guest DT. I was planning to say yes (because I really like Makira, who is talented, generous, funny, and kind) but as soon as she said the theme for August was Fairy Tales… I jumped at the chance! Makira graciously provides a long listing of “inspiration” (i.e. hundreds of different themes, and where they can be found in Amusement Parks around the globe) which I often consult needing ideas for my cards however, this time I needed no help in coming up with an idea. “I shall feature a Princess!” was my first thought!  A scene right out of Cinderella almost magically appeared after I selected a beautiful digi from Sheepski Designs, sentiments from We Are 3, a clockface background from DDDoodles, vellum, shiny silver cardstock… and a bit of bling! (If you look closely, you can see the tiara on her head that I made by trimming a section from a silver crown sticker!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges, including Passion for Markers: Favorite Color Combo (I like blue and silver/grey together.)

Supplies:

·   Digi- Sheepski Designs (Ball Gown)

·   Background Clock Digi- Decosse’s Dynamite Doodles Free digi/paper pack (Clockwork)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white, sparkle, and silver gel pens

·   Sentiments- We Are 3 Digital Sentiments (Dreams)

This card was created for the Butterfly Challenge, one of my favs! Mrs. A, the sponsor, offered several changes for the summer. For this one, the theme is “Floral”, and we can use any colors, folds, etc. that we desire… plus a butterfly. (My card has a whole flock of ‘em!)
Over two dozen butterflies create a beautiful heart shape background, and two large butterfly silhouettes embellish the front and inside of the card. If you follow my blog you might recognize these silhouettes. Last month I attempted to print one on acetate and emboss it with black EP. However, I ran into one major mess after another. (Read the details HERE if you dare!) So this time I started by using info I found on the web to make sure I used the correct acetate for our printer. It worked beautifully! It took a while, but the ink did air dry.  (Because of last month’s mess, I still didn’t quite trust that the ink would stay put. So, I gently covered the inked butterfly’s with pieces of self-stick laminating sheets, pressed the tape down, and fussy-cut around them. A white gel pen added a bit of contrast to the wings, and it was time to put the card together. (Note- the acetate still ends up with some tiny black specks across the wings. Maybe caused by static? I left the inside butterfly clear but opted to color the underside of the one on the front with a few layers of red with my alcohol markers. I like both options!)
Supplies:

·   Web Article- How to purchase the right acetate for different printers HERE.

·   Butterfly Heart Digi- Alex Siberia Designs (Adore You)

·   Colored with grey Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white & red pens

·   Silhouette Digi- Fred She Said Designs (Distressed-Butterfly-Blossoms-Digi-Set)

I had fun making a simple rocker card with an adorable Hippo digi from Beccy’s Place. (You can find lots of rocker card tuts on Pinterest. Here are my two favorites (which have very different looks when finished); one is made with a circle folded in half and the other starts with a rectangleThe lavender tulle tutu, colorful bows, plus painted pink toenails, and our budding Diva is ready to take center stage! (One of the things that artist Beccy Muir does that always makes me smile is that she names each of her “characters..”  So please allow me to introduce to you… Harriet!)

This is the time of the year that I miss living in a state where sunflower crops abound. I used to love seeing all their bright “faces” following the sun as it moves across the sky. They are almost magical to see when in full bloom as they can grow pretty tall. And, of course, they produce sunflower seeds, which are a yummy, salty/crunchy treat!
The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and this digi is one of many sunflowers that is available FREE from Power Poppy, as owner/artist Marcella Hawley encourages us to create cards using the digis to show support for Ukraine. Marcella also created a beautiful FUNDRAISER - Peace Offering Digi and Coloring Page that you can find HERE for just $5.
Supplies:

·   Digi- Power Poppy Digital Stamp ((Bring Home Some Sunflowers)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Sentiments from SnapClickSupply.com digi set (Sweet As Can Bee Word Art)

The pretty blue sunglass shades are created with scraps of colored plastic index divider sheets. (These wonderful items- sometimes called document file folders- come in a pack of assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and more translucent. Punches and dies don’t work on these sheets, but they are easy to fussy-cut with a sharp pair of scissors. And you can trace shapes onto them with a permanent fine line marker- which Is how I created these lenses. After printing and fussy-cutting the star-shaped glass frames, using an Exacto blade to cut the inside of the frames out, too. I attached thin strips of double-stick tape onto the frames, then laid them, sticky side down, onto a piece of blue file folder slightly larger than the frames. Press the frames and blue plastic together, then fussy-cut around the outer edges. Add depth and shine to the sunglasses with a layer of Glossy Accents. (If small air bubbles appear, gently poke them with a sharp pen. And add a rhinestone or other decoration if desired while still sticky.) Set glasses aside and allow them to dry before attaching to the finished card.
Supplies:

·   Digis (Glasses, Eyechart, inside sentiment) from Jans Digi Stamps Set (Glasses)

·   Shine on sunglass lenses added with Glossy Accents

·   Pioneer Blacj Photo corners- available from several sources

·   Cardstock, blue plastic index divider sheet, and other items from my stash.

·   All other items from my stash.
