2 Penny’s Plus +1!

It's time for another challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge Blog where challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out!
For this challenge, I couldn’t decide which image I’d like to use on my DT card… so I decided to make TWO cards! The first card features a wonderful wizard from Dr. Digi. It was so fun to create this card. Except for the fact that when I shared it with my hubby he called me a counterfeiter! Ha! (It's okay... I copied pics of play money I found on the web- and cite the source in my supplies list. So, I did nothing illegal in the making of this card!) The fun sentiment on this card is a variation of one that used to be sold by a company named Victorine Originals which is no longer in business. It is what inspired me to add the flurry of fake money to the card.
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Bugaboo Stamps- All About the Kids (I’m thinking that any kid with a sense of humor would like this card… and even some 65-year-old kids would also get a kick out of it!)
Supplies:
·   Digi- Dr Digi (Wizz Doodles)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   Play Money (front and back) found HERE.
·   Sentiments- Computer Generated
·
Star Template and silver starred vellum from my scrapbook stash.

·   All paper, including Silver glitter paper, from my stash.

The second sponsor for the current challenge at Penny’s is Jan’s Digis. My sweet mom had a green thumb so I have fond memories of her beautiful flower gardens and window boxes. Lily of the Valley was her favorite spring flower… and I love them, too. So this wonderful image really warms my heart. (And her name was Rose. How perfect is that?!) The inside sentiment is from another of Jan’s Digi stamp sets named Signs of Autumn. I love the message it carries. I wanted to add a bit of texture to the heart tag by making it look like weathered wood with a light pink stain. After several unsuccessful attempts on a scrap of paper, I finally tried adding the woodgrain with a plain old #2 pencil and it worked beautifully!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including We Craft Cards- Home Sweet Home (where we were to depict what makes us happy when we think of the three words- live, laugh, and love. Those three words make me think of my sweet mom who is one of my greatest heroes- or should I say my greatest SHEro! Mom raised six children while working full time, living on a shoestring, and dealing with debilitating health issues. I learned so many important life lessons from her. The most important was to trust in God and also to see beauty and grace in everything and everyone. I miss her every day!), Scribbles Designs and Path of Positivity (with themes of heartfelt and celebrating those you love. My sweet mom fills both of those categories!)

Supplies:
·   Digi and front sentiment- Jan’s Digi Stamps (Lily of the Valley)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   Inside Sentiment- Jan’s Digi Stamps (Signs of Autumn)
·   All other items from my stash.

My final card this post was made for The Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge that requires the word Smile and/or a Sun. My card features a sun on the turtle's shell… and the sweet little Turt brings a smile to my face! I also love the wonderful background embossed on yellow vellum.
Note- the cute little turtle is from a company named Little Scraps of Heaven. Tricia Veinot Moore, owner/artist of LSOH offers a weekly freebie. This digi was a freebie several years ago. Stop HERE to nab the current one (an adorable llama in cap and scarf!). And, while you are there, you might want to do some shopping because right now all the LSOH digis are on sale for just $1.) If you want to get a weekly email notifying you of the current freebie, scroll down to the very bottom of the page to sign up for the newsletter. Easy Peasy! Tricia also has a FB page HERE.
I'm entering this card into several challenges that focus on sentiments (Outlawz- Saturday Paper Ala Mode and Digi Doodle Studios), Simon Says Wed-Favorite Technique (I love doing paper piecing), plus Little Scraps of Heaven-create a card or tag for someone you love ( I made this card for my youngest sister, Judi who loves turtles and sun... and being a single mom with three grown children and three grandkiddos really deserves a vacation on the beach!)

Mid-month Fun!

This year we celebrated Valentine's Day in a deep freeze! Yep... the day arrived at 25 degrees below zero with wind chills of -45 degrees. And those temps didn't want to go away. When I woke this AM it was 59 degrees in our house. Brrr. Took nearly four hours to get the temp to 62, and now at bedtime, it is finally 66. Needless to say, wool socks, long-johns, sweaters, and a warm blankie helped take the edge off.  Oh... and lots of hot coffee! Amen!

It’s
time for the mid-month challenge at QKR Stampede, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself? My DT card features an adorable checkered cow (I love the look on her face and those google eyes are perfect on her!) I’m entering this card into several challenges including two based on photo inspirations, each features sweet little hearts that I tried to mimic on the front and inside of my card.

Supplies:
·   Digi- Eureka Digital Stamp (Checkered Cow) Also available in unmounted or cling-mounted
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

The temp here in Wisconsin has been super Brrrrr…y this last week (wind chills of 30-45  below zero!)  so I’ve spent lots of time in my warm craft room, cleaning and organizing. I am donating lots of items to the mental health and treatment/recovery agency where I work so also did a lot of sorting. In the process, I found some things I haven’t used in a loooong time. I also used a stamping technique that I haven’t used in a loooong time! Not sure what it is called, but it involves bold stamp images and zero coloring as the markers are applied directly to the stamps. A rainbow ink pad was used to add vibrant color to the vase and sentiment. (Part of the reason the colors are so intense is that the images are stamped onto glossy paper.) I added a few puffy butterfly stickers as I am entering this card into The Butterfly Challenge.

Supplies:
·   Wood Mount Stamps- Lilac Bunch and vase (Rubber Stampede) Company no longer in business
·   Butterfly Puffy Stickers- don’t remember where I found them, but you can buy them HERE

·   Royal Satin Kaleidacolor Rainbow Ink Pad, large Marvy Markers (purple and green), brown cord, unmounted “Happy Birthday” stamp (might be SU) and other items from my stash.

Party Balloon Dragon

It’s Friday and time for the Colour Crazy Challenge. This challenge is an “Anything Goes” but it adds a requirement; the creation needs to include coloring in “any colouring medium you like, onto any project you like, and in any colours you like.” I’ve never outgrown my love for coloring… which is why making cards is stress therapy for me!!
This week's sponsor is Lee Holland and I selected a sweet digi named Party Balloon Dragon.  I colored the little party goer with alcohol markers and a white gel pen. The billowy clouds were created with a stencil, makeup sponge, and chalks. The sentiment circle is from my scrapbook stash (which doesn’t appear to dwindle no matter how often I dig into it. So funny!)
Supplies:
·   Digi- Lee Holland digi (Party Balloon Dragon)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   All Night Media Cloud stencil (no longer available)
·   Decorative Chalks, makeup sponge, sentiment circle, and papers from my stash.

I found a card I made over 20 years ago that served as the inspiration for this CAS card. (I usually have more of a CAC style, cluttered and complicated, so don't make many CAS cards. But I hope this qualifies?) I made a simple gatefold base for the card, then used two squares of paper and a heart template from my scrapbook stash to create the main focal point, a layered heart. After adhering it onto a rectangle of black cardstock, I followed the process highlighted by arrows in the photo below to add the ribbon. First, I punched two holes just inside of the heart shape and threaded a thin strip of sheer ribbon down into punched hole “A.” Next, I wrapped the ribbon to the right across the back of the black rectangle, pulled it up through punched hole “B” and then wrapped it to the left across the back of the rectangle. At the left side of the layered heart, I pulled the ribbon up and tied it into a bow. TaDa! A few layered sentiments and puffy hearts finished the card, which took less than 15 minutes to make.

Supplies:
·   Sentiments- We Are 3 Sentiment Set (Valentines)
·   Puffy Heart Stickers- Sticko’s from WalMart (113 assorted puffy hearts for just 99 cents!)
·   Heart template, papers, and sheer ribbon from my stash.

My last card this posting features a funny digi and sentiment from Bugaboo. I made it for my boss whose husband is an EMT/Fireman. She has a “40 something” birthday coming up and I know that she will love it! I upcycled a birthday party invitation (from a pack that I found at Goodwill for $1 a few years ago) to the front of the card to add some splashes of color behind Stella, the birthday girl. The colors I used for the digi complement the background. So fun!
Supplies:
·   Digi and inside sentiment- Bugaboo Stamps (Stella Birthday Fireman Call)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   Upcycled birthday party invitations and other items from my stash.

Sparkles, Bugs and Kisses

One of my staff members is an empty-nester, and really misses her children who are both attending college on the other side of the nation. I know that she misses them dearly so I gave her an assortment of cards to let them know she is thinking of them. Her daughter loves all things Disney. So… this card was made just for her! The silhouette Tinkerbelle was created with a stencil from a Pumpkin Carving kit I’ve had for over a decade and a scrap of black cardstock. The sunset photo background is of a nearby lake. I used my Paint program to layer floral silhouette images from a Beccy's Place digi set across the top of the photo.  I printed the A2 sized card from onto white copy paper with colored ink, then sponged additional shades of blue and grey ink around the edges. I then used white kraft ink, handmade circle stencils, and a bokeh technique tutorial from Pinterest to add a magical feeling to the background. The final magic was added by liberally adding small dots of Stickles around Tinkerbelle. Because… well… fairies love sparkles!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including 2craftycrittercrazies Challenge (I am not sure if a fairy is a critter… but am thinking they might be, just like a butterfly is a critter!) and
Stamping Sensations- Colour My World ( I love this beautiful color palette that we can often enjoy both morning and evening over a nearby lake. How amazing is that?!)

For some odd reason, I usually have chocolate kiss wrappers available. Ha! I remembered making an iris fold chocolate kiss card a while ago, but I couldn’t find the pattern in my files. So, I started flattening and folding the foil scraps until I had enough to line the inside of a kiss shape I’d sketched and cut from a piece of cardstock. I randomly overlapped the folded foil strips and taped them in place, tucking a little Hershey’s kiss tag into one of the folds on the point. The silver embossed sentiment on the inside adds an extra bit of shine.
PS 45 years ago a really cute guy I was dating at college gave me a 1# Hersheys kiss for Valentine's Day. I loved it and kinda liked him. Long story short- we just celebrated our 43rd Anniversary!  And the package of Kisses on the counter that he brought home from grocery shopping yesterday shows that he knows at least two ways to my heart- chocolate AND doing the shopping!  I do love my guy.
Supplies:
·   Inside sentiment- “Happy Valentine’s Day” Stampendous Wood Mount (retired)
·   Silver foil for iris folding- from a chocolate binge!
·   All other items from my stash.
