Cute and Sweet

A short time ago I was thrilled to have my card at the Art Impressions challenge be picked as an Honorable Mention. And… it was especially nice to learn that I got to pick a prize. There were so many of their stamps that I wanted… but I finally settled on a sweet set named "Mini Cat Spinner" mainly because I wanted to make a card in memory of my mom with this cute kitten. And the current challenge named "Cutting Edge" provided me with inspiration.
My five siblings and I loved critters of all kinds… and our mom was kind-hearted and let us bring almost anything home to be a "pet." We had parakeets, turtles, fish, salamanders, Guinea pigs, and farms, dogs and especially cats. Mom love cats… and she loved sheer curtains… which, consequently often had runs in them. Because… well, my card depicts the reason. Mom would have loved that I made this card with a scrap from the sewing stash of treasures that she left for me to enjoy. She also would've loved that the cat was trying to get nose to nose with a butterfly.
I used a basic Flip-fold card, making the flip section tall enough to hold the window. [You can find a pattern with instructions HERE ] I die-cut two window frames, one in white and one and tan. Laid one of them onto the flap, traced the outer edge of the window panes and cut out that middle section. I then used double stick tape to add a scrap of laminate, which was then sandwiched between the two window frames. Took some time to hand stitch the tiny curtains so that I could slide them onto the "curtain rod" [a wooden skewer that I cut down to size.] And, after taping the cat to the inside of the window, onto the curtain, I took a needle and added a line of snags.
Am entering this into a few other challenges including Simon Says Monday  [the little fur face is certainly a Miniature/Tiny Thing], Mod Squad Challenge [the window is from "Diemond Dies"] and Cute Card Thursday [the kitten looks like it has a bit of Spring Fever trying to catch the flutterby.]

This card was made for two challenges, Double D's Gingham [Gingham makes me think of Christmas], and WeCraftCards [we had to use one of the cards from a 10 card wonder assortment as our inspirations- I chose the one with Peekaboo Frame fold, sometimes called an Origami Shadow Box. You can find a great tutorial for making this super simple fold HEREThe little Gingerbread House is a sticker, the mini-gingerbread man is from a retired SU set [from the 90's] stamped into paper clay, lightly colored with chalks and mounted atop a scrap of red mulberry paper before being adhered to a mini-tag. [Am realizing that this card could've also qualified for the Simon Says Monday Challenge.] The sentiment is a freebie from TLC Creations (createwithtlc.blogspot.com)

Wanted to give one of my staff one of her favorite treats because she's been working on a few difficult tasks, so decided to make a treat bag to match a few challenges. I punched the honeycomb with one of my Fiskars punches, and fussy-cut the little bees from scrapbook paper. The little sentiment is computer generated. Made s simple bag topper with cardstock and adhered all the pieces. The final touch was to use a micro-fine black pen to add stitching onto the honeycomb and bee trails. Yummy.

My final card for this post is for this week's Power Poppy's Creative Confetti challenge named "Thank You- Next!" The requirements for the challenge are, "create a card that has elements that are easy to reproduce." I knew that I had a box of plain thank you cards in my stash. So I pulled them out and stamped a few of the cards and envelopes with a rose leaf wood mount stamp from Rubber Stampede and sage green ink.  Stamped the rose bloom with a Rubber Stampede stamp in deep pink ink. To add some depth, I stamped more blooms and leaves on scraps, fussy-cut them and mounted to the front of the card with foam tape. It took less than 10 minutes to make the card and envelops. Quick and so pretty.
