myasperations 10-24-23

All weekend I was working on cards to enter into the current Simon Says Wednesday Challenge. Then life hit… and I am just getting them posted tonight… 10 hours before the deadline. Eeek! Both feature a beverage… and this first one  features food (well… candy corn… that’s kinda like really sweet food, right?! The front “Spooky” haunted house and inside sentiment are both from my scrapbook stash. (The little bat was fussy-cut from a paper scrap to decorate the inside of  the card a bit.) The yummy beverage is a digi from Beccy’s Place, colored with alcohol pens and my trusty white gel pen.

Supplies:

·   Digi- Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Pumpkin and Spice)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Pioneer Black Photo corners- available from several sources

·   Sentiment Labels, patterned paper and other items from my stash.

My second card for the Simon Says Challenge features one of my favorite character stamps from Art Impressions named Maude, looking like she needs a lot more coffee to get her day started! I have a red rubber stamp that I purchased over 20 years ago, she was part of AI’s “Golden Oldies” collection!  I love the attitude that Maude exudes, and I often pair her with a snarky sentiment like the one I used for this card. I’ve always loved that Maude has a smiley face mug, so I was excited when I found a freebie smiley mug that I printed off and fussy-cut to add a bit of fun to the inside sentiment!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Art Impressions Challenge: Give us Frights (a birthday card I received years ago included the sentiment that I added to the inside of this card. It has a funny but possibly frightening edge to it that still makes me laugh out loud!)
Supplies:

·   Image- Art Impressions Stamp (Super Maude) Sadly Maude appears to be retired but I do see her hanging out on EBay occasionally!

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Sentiments- Computer Generated

·   Smiley Face coffee cup- Freebie found HERE.

·   Assorted background papers and scraps of vellum (cut into steam swirls) from my stash

This card was created for the current Christmas Craft Creations challenge “Monochromatic.”
I seldom use stencils but picked this one up at a recent sale and wanted to try it out. Within a short time, I remembered why I don’t stencil very often (See Exhibit 1… ummm, I mean picture 1…below!) I trimmed away the sections with non-smudged snowflakes and used them to create this simple card. A snowflake brad I’ve had in my stash for at least 12 years (because I remembered ordering them from Oriental Trading Company’s After Christmas Sale before we made our last major move to our current home.) I found them when organizing my craft room. I love when that happens!
Supplies:

·   Echo Park Designer 6x6 Stencil-The Story of Christmas Snowflakes #1 Stencil

·   Sentiments- Computer Generated

·   White pigment ink, large heart punch, pastel speckled background paper, metal snowflake brad, and other items from my stash.

myasperations 10-20-23

This month’s Sheepski Designs FB Challenge theme is “Use Purple or Orange.” I featured both colors plus Andrea’s artwork named “Ball Gown” and one of the freebies from her FB page! I usually use alcohol markers on my cards, but I wanted to try giving this card a hazy feeling, so used watercolor pencils and chalks. (I did get the effect I wanted, but was also reminded why I like using alcohol markers. I guess that crisp and bold is officially my style!) I also like fussy-cutting, which is apparent on this card. My card also includes one happy accident. I picked a light green colored pencil for the grass near the castle. It was lighter than I planned, so I tried to layer a darker green on top. It didn’t work and I ended up with an almost neon green shade, which kinda looks like it is lit from the window’s yellow glow. (WAIT… I think I did that on purpose, unconsciously? Because I’m just talented like that! Ha!)
My beloved hubby and I celebrate Anniversary #44 in a few months. He loves Halloween. So, I came up with the sentiment to describe how I'd feel without him in my life. (And since he always expects a card on our anniversary, this one might just surprise him. Ah… BOO!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Inspiration Station: Inspiration photo (both the photo and my card features jack-o-lanterns.)

I enjoyed creating a card for the current Outlawz Progressive Challenge. Anne Fenton from
Anne’s Digital Art, donated her wonderful digi named “Pumpkins and Cat” for our use. I
used my free Paint.net program to layer the digi atop a beautiful scenic background paper
from We Are 3. The pensive pose of the cat made me think of the sentiment I’d used on the
card I made for my sweet hubby (posted above) and I think it is a perfect fit!  I’ll be sending it
to a dear friend who likes cats and also has supported me through some difficult periods in my
life. We now live a few states apart, and although I am thankful for cell phones, I miss our
weekly coffee dates always filled with laughter, prayer, and sometimes tears and hugs.
An added note- Anne’s website features a large assortment of beautiful drawings, which
(I think) are free upon request. I don’t see “Pumpkins and Cat” digi posted there, but you can
ask Anne if it is available.
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Outlawz Challenge: Festive Friday (I
used one of my favorite digi scenic backgrounds from the sponsor of this challenge, We Are 3.
It is so perfect for Halloween Cards!)
Supplies:
·   Digi- Anne's Digital Art (Check out Anne’s large assortment of beautiful drawings)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, and Aquarelle Colored pencils

·   Free Paint.net program can be found HERE (use to add watermarks, layer digis, and more!)

The Four Seasons Challenge- Fall (Oct

I seldom use stencils but I picked this one up at a recent sale, and wanted to try it out. Within a short time, I remembered why I don’t stencil very often (See Exhibit 1… ummm, I mean Picture 1…below!) I trimmed away the sections with non-smudged snowflakes to embellish other cards, and then outlined the flakes that were most smudged with Liquid Pearls. That helped a bit, but I decided that could cover more of the oopsed section with a digi, scrapbook tag or large sentiments. So I started digging and came up with this adorable little cutie on a card front. When fussy-cut and adhered to the card front, I love how he will draw everyones attention… not the background oopsies!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Path Of Positivity Challenge: Anything Goes Positive (not only was I able to save a messy bit of stenciling from the trash. The sweet little snow baby is from a box a cards a found at a 90% off sale about 10 years ago. When I saw the little guy I immediately thought of my dear mom… who would have loved that plump little cutie. So, making this care reminded me of my mom. She’s been in her heavenly mansion now for over a decade, but whenever I think of her it makes my heart happy. She was the kindest person I’ve ever known, and I was blessed to call her MOM!)
Supplies:

·   Liquid Pearls- White Opal

·   Front Sentiment- Hello (handwritten)

·   Inside Sentiment- a freebie from Birdscards.com (Wishing You a Magical Christmas)
