myasperations 12-15-25

This year, the Path of Positivity (POP) is challenging you to Embrace the Unexpected! (Click HERE if you'd like to read more in-depth about our overall theme for 2025).  To help inspire you on this journey, each month we will undertake activities such as creating fun, unexpected projects, working with items we might not typically work with, taking approaches that differ from our usual methods, and offering the unexpected to someone in our lives. This month's theme is "Unexpected Animal on a Holiday Card.” (More theme information can be found HERE.)
Note- This theme is optional, so as long as your creation is positive or encouraging in some way, enter it into the POP challenge for a chance to win $6 worth of images fro our sponsor, Scribbles Designs, and/or be honored as one of our special "picks"!
I had fun featuring a frog digi from the POP Sponsor, Scribbles Designs on my card. The suave amphibian is named “Cool Carl,” and I paired him with the perfect sentiment to match his debonaire pose, "I'm the official mistletoe tester" (also from Scribbles Designs).  Since Carl's glasses are shaded in the digi image, coloring him took very little time, and since I used an oval template from my scrapbook stash to draw an oval around Carl, there was very little fussy-cutting required, and the card went together in a snap!
Supplies:
·    Digi Image- Scribbles Designs (Cool Carl)

·    Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·    Background Paper- JoAnnes Crafts (Sadly no longer in business)

·    Front Sentiment- Desert Diva Freebie (hello)

·    Inside Sentiment-Scribbles Digital Image (Official Mistletoe Tester

·    Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.

·    All other misc. items and tools from my stash.

I rarely used sketches when making cards until I discovered the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers (BYSHC) Challenge a few years ago. I used this month's sketch to create this card that features a silver wire coffee cup brad (that I bought at Oriental Trading Company during 60-80% off after-Christmas sales at least 20 years ago… because I remember the house we were living in at the time is where I had my first ever “craft room” for myself!)
I’m also entering this card into the Coffee Loving Paper Crafters/Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge (because… well… it’s coffee dressed up especially for Christmas), and Simon Says Wednesday's Challenge "Sparkle and Shine" (The coffee brad really has a wonderful silver shine, and the silver photo corners add even more shine. The sparkle is less visible, but I did add some Stickles Diamonds to a few of the ornaments in the background.)

Supplies:

·   Patterned paper from Hobby Lobby used to create cutout shapes for the Sketch

·   Coffee Cup Brad- Oriental Trading Company (no longer available)

·   Front Sentiment (peeking from within coffee cup brad)- from Hobby Lobby patterned paper

·   Inside Sentiment- “Wishing You a Cozy Christmas,” a freebie from Birdscards.com (Blog now closed)

·    Silver photo corners available from several web sources (WXJ13 Photo Mounting Corners)

·    Stickles Diamonds- to add sparkle to the ornaments on the card front

·    Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.

·   All other misc. items and tools from my stash.

myasperations 12-14-25a

I rarely used sketches when making cards until I discovered the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers (BYSHC) Challenge a few years ago.
This card is my first entry using this  month's sketch.  It features a yummy coffee image from a free digi set that I nabbed after I joined a FB group named Printables for your Junk Journaling with TLC. The group regularly offers wonderful freebies plus sets of affordable digis for members via a Ko-fi shop. (See details in Supplies list below.)
Since the digi features a cookie and a latte, I used patterned paper with little sketches of Santa’s. If he’s lucky, the BIG Santa will have time to enjoy the latte and a few of the cookies after he makes his Christmas Eve delivery!
Supplies:

·   Background created using Sketch from the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers December Challenge

·   Yummy coffee image- from TlcCreates Vintage Junk Journal FB page (Sign up for the group HERE, then do a search for “coffee” and you’ll find this free

   digi and many more!)

·   Patterned papers from Hobby Lobby (mini gingerbread cookies on inside sentiment were cut from paper)

·   Sentiments- from Beccy’s Place Digi set that are no longer available. (Business recently changed to clear stamps/wholesale only)

·   Gold photo corners available from several web sources (WXJ13 Photo Mounting Corners)

·   Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.

·   All other misc. items and tools from my stash.

A dear friend raises chickens… and also likes snarky cards. So… I think she will love this one! The look on the chicken and rooster's faces fit perfectly with the free sentiment from one of my favorite blogs for free and funny sayings. I love adding unexpected details when I color digis, and if you look closely, you’ll see that the cute chicks’ toenails are painted red. So fun!

·   Digi- Patties Creations (Silly Chickens on Coop
