The Time Out Challenge current theme is “Star
Wars” so I wanted to make several cards to recognize this classic movie. Back
in in 1977 my boyfriend/soon to be fiancée and I went to see it and were blown
away by the special effects and especially the diverse number of odd aliens! We
just watched Rogue One followed by Star Wars, and it was fun to see how the two
movie plot lines merged together, even though they were released nearly 4
decades apart!
For this card I used a
wonderful digi that displays Leia’s feisty personality, unique hairstyle, and classic
fashion sense! After watching the movie, I realized that her hair was much
darker than I colored it on this digi. I'll need to remember that for next time!
I’m entering this card into
several challenges including two with a Star Wars theme (Park Hopping and
Colorful Options).

I’ve had a sheet of vintage faux postage stamps for many years, and they worked
perfectly into this month’s sketch when paired with a Santa on the beach
colored digi from a packet of scrapbook embellishments I’ve also had for some
time. The two sentiments, from a Beccy’s Place digi set, are the perfect for
this fun card, is fun card… which went together pretty quickly!
An added note- Sadly, Beccy
Muir, artist/owner of Beccy’s Place, is discontinuing her digi line on June 30
th (she explains the reasons for this difficult decision
HERE.)
So, if you have plans to add any of her digi sets to your collection, or have
any gift cards you need to use, you will need to do that soon. Beccy added a “
Digital Stamp Sale”
section to her shop, in which she has posted a large number of individual digis
andsets from the past, priced from $3.00 to as low as 31¢ (US rate.) Since I
often use sentiments from Beccy’s digi sets on my cards, I made sure to pay
attention not just to the images but also the sentiments in the sets as I
filled my cart with these treasures before they are gone forever! (Sad sigh!) The
set that I used for the sentiments on this card has been fun to use when
sending Christmas cards to friends and family that live in warm climates or
spend the holiday near the ocean. I included a pic of the WM set to show
Beccy’s creativity of turning snowpeople into sand people! I love them.

My
final post features an image from a Dover Publications coloring book
named First My Mother, Forever My Friend. I signed up the Dover
Publications Sampler several years ago and have appreciated that I receive
regular emails with to a half dozen coloring and activity books, each offering
4-5 pages that are available for a short time as free downloads. This card
was created with one of those free pages. After saving the
coloring sheet, I used my Word program to reduce it in size to fit an A2 card,
then printed it off, and added color and embellishments. I then added the tag/flap with the sentiment "Happy Mother's Day" in Vietnamese. The reason? A few months ago a friend who teaches an ESL (English as Second Language) class at a local college. introduced me to one of her students, named Ha, who quickly became a new friend. Ha, her husband, and her young son, recently moved to the States from Vietnam and live just down the block from me. We’ve met for coffee a few times, and when I learned that Ha has never received a Mother's Day card, I got to work making one especially for her! With the help of a free translator on the web I tailored the sentiment just for my new friend. Seeing her bright smile after receiving the card reminded me, once again, why I love making cards.
