It's May 19th, and time for a new challenge at The Path of Positivity! I loved the inspiration for this challenge when I stumbled upon it several years ago. If you'd like to learn more, read the Introduction provided in 2013 by the challenge creator, Lisa D. Lisa establishes an annual goal, and 2025's goal is Embrace the Unexpected in our lives. May's Theme is Make an Unexpected Design, and Lisa provides several suggestions that might inspire you for this challenge HERE. I used the third option provided by Lisa to make this card- "Just want to do some colouring? Choose an intricate image that will keep you busy (ex., a zentangle piece would be good for this). Throw a bunch of markers or pencil crayons into a bag/box and randomly choose colours for each section of the drawing."
For the base of my card, I chose a wonderfully detailed digi named "Throw Kindness" from Scribbles Designs, and dug out every gel pen I could find in my craft room, and every hidey hole in our home!
I covered my eyes, picked a gel pen, and used it to color a section of the sheet. I continued doing this until the only part of the sheet that wasn't colored was the white area around the sentiment. I adhered the colored sheet to teal colored cardstock, trimmed it to size, adhered it to the front of an A2 card with a navy blue frame, then added black photo corners.
When finished, I thought that the finished product looked a bit "muddy", so I used my trusty white gel pen to add highlights to the shapes throughout the sheet, including the lettering. This little bit of extra work really brightened up the finished card.
Although the card took quite a bit of time to color, it was a very relaxing task. I encourage you to try one or more of the options that Lisa provided to help you "think outside of the box" or come up with a process yourself. One of your creations might even win you $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs and/or be honored as one of our special "picks"! Supplies:
· Digi from Scribbles Designs (Throw Kindness)
· Colored with Sakura Gelly Roll gel pens in many colors, metallics, and sparkles
· Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.
· Pioneer Black Photo corners- available from several sources
· All other misc. items and tools from my stash.

I spent some time this last week cutting
lots of little squares and selecting/coloring images and sentiments to make
cards for this month's Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers group (BYSHC)
Challenge on FB. This card features one of my favorite digis from Scribbles Designs,
a sweet little Christmas Elf, framed by holiday goodie stickers. A
few holiday goodies are fussy-cut from the stickers to be used as
embellishments on the inside sentiment.
I love that this little cutie is holding up a sentiment, but I'm nor sure if he is telling us that Santa's Elves have been making holiday treats... or eating them?!
Supplies:
·
Elf Digi- Scribbles Designs (Elves At Work) includes its own sentiment
·
Colored with Spectrum
Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white & silver gel pens
·
Inside Sentiment “Sweet Holiday
Wishes” from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Christmas Cheers)

There are three challenges right now
celebrating Star Wars, since we just celebrated “May the 4th be with
you…” on May 4th. Since the challenge rules note that our creations
can feature anything related to space, I made a card using a great
digi named “Retro Space Girl” from The Paper Shelter. I wanted to add some
texture to my card, so I traced a circle the size of the little astronauts' space
helmet onto acetate with a permanent fine-line black marker. I cut this circle
out and set it aside in a safe place (I’ve learned that acetate is very easy to
lose if laid on an already over-full craft table!!)
Color,
then fussy-cut the digi, being cautious when cutting around delicate areas, including her fingers and the flames from
the rocket belt. (I learned a little trick from a Jennifer McGuire video years
ago that helps in this task. Before doing any fussy-cutting, add strips of
transparent tape to the backside of the digi to strengthen the paper!)
Next, trim the astronaut’s space helmet
from the digi, setting the little radio antennae from the top of it aside. Use a few very small strips of double-sided
tape to attach the acetate circle to replace the helmet you trimmed off. Use
a few small strips of the same tape to adhere the antennae atop her space helmet.
I had some scraps of vellum on my desk and
decided to use them to make the smoke billowing from the rockets become translucent.
So I traced the smoke plumes onto vellum, several times, fussy-cut and set them
aside. After fussy cutting the original plumes from the rockets, I replaced them
with the vellum ones. So fun!
