myasperations 6-19-23

The Butterfly Challenge is a favorite of mine for several reasons. I love butterflies, the host/sponsor is creative and generous, and I get and she shares instructions for a special fold each challenge. I enjoyed this quick and easy one,  appropriately named the Bookmark Fold! My card includes two of the required colors: banana (butterfly) and  briar, plus three of the themes: Bow (and tiny button below the raffia bow digi, Butterflies, and the Bookmark Fold.)
I attempted to use watercolor pencils on artist Jan Mahew’s beautiful floral arrangement because I wanted a light wash of colors. Instead, I ended up with a muddy blurry image. I almost tossed it… but am not a quitter. So, after allowing the image to dry completely, I used my trusty white gel pen to add highlights and definition. (Oh, and I like the sentiment, which I printed as a “two-parter” so the punch-line could be on the inside of the card. So fun!)
Supplies:

·   Floral Digis- Jans Digi Stamp Set (Spring Flowers and Coffee)

·   Colored with Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Sentiment- “Life Doesn’t Come with a Manual…” from a Jans Digi Stamp Set (Bonnet Bouquet)

·   Butterfly Stickers and Weathered Wood Paper- Hobby Lobby

·   Cardstock, scraps of ribbon, and other items from my stash.

This card was inspired by a sketch from the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers Group {BYSHC} I found this great group on FB a few years ago and, although I don’t use sketches very often, I do like the ones that they offer. And I LOVE that they host Linky parties several times a year. (I don’t think I’ve missed one of their linky parties since I joined. They offer lots of wonderful prizes and the sponsor is so gracious and kind!)

For this card, I used a sweet (literally!) digi and two sentiments from Beccy Muir, an amazing artist, business owner, and friend. When I first saw this sucker digi, I knew that I had to use it on a card with real cellophane. The only difficult thing about making this card was picking out the background papers, and fussy-cutting the bow for the sucker! (Oh… and trying not to drool while wrapping its peppermint yummyness!)
Supplies:

·   Sucker Digi - from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Christmas Candy)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·  6x6 Christmas Paper Pack- Hobby Lobby

·   Front Sentiment “Delicious Christmas Wishes” from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Christmas Cheers)

·   Inside Sentiment “Jolly Good Holiday”” from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Cozy Christmas)

·   All other items from my stash.

Since I’m a Contributor for Beccy’s Place, I’m entering just for fun!

Brooklyn, one of my grand-nieces, is a true “critter lover.”  Since Brooklyn was in preschool she’s enjoyed a menagerie of pets including cats, dogs, and guinea pigs, and always took good care of them. So, when she was 8 years old and asked if she could have a lizard, her parents helped her research options. They were a bit surprised she picked one that would frighten most children (and some adults) but they knew she’d take good care of her new friend. Brooklyn named him Leon, explaining, “You know… because he’s a lizard!” (Although, I recently learned that Leon is a Bearded Dragon, not an Iguana, I think this card will still make Brooklyn smile on her upcoming birthday!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Inspiration Station- Photo: (my card includes a yellow sunset scene, plus, it makes me miss Brooklyn… but Leon not so much. I know that they are calm, and not threatening, but he does scare me a bit!); and
Park Hopping-My Happy Place: (Dragons make me think of Harry Potter, so visiting Universal Studios Diagon Alley Orlando is on my bucket list!)

myasperations 6-15-23

I am honored to have served as a Guest Designer for Beccy Muir at Beccy’s Place and am now one of her “Contributors” (which means that she provides me with digis or clear stamp sets several times a year and I get to create cards or other items with them!) It is always fun to see the images Beccy invites me to use.  This time, the digi and sentiments are from a just released set named “Fairy Folk.” I love that Beccy names each of the people (and also critters and imaginary characters), and this beautiful fairy is named Sebille. I have never heard that name before, so googled “meaning of the name Sebille” and was rewarded with several options including “a female name of English origin meaning Prophet, from the legend of King Arthur” and “fairy”, and “an Islamic baby name for boy or girl that means way, path, road or route.” (I love all of the options!)
You can see from the pic of the WM set that Sebille actually adorns her head with a few graceful bird feathers! However, for my card, I decided to turn her into the Queen (bee) that she is by adding some glitter to her wings, and tucking those feathers under a gold crown!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Outlawz Monday Greeting: Fairytale Wishes (one of my favorite Fairy Tales is Cinderella, with the kind and generous Fairy Godmother. I also included the optional twist… sparkle!); and the Time Out Challenge: Sportive (Sebilles sweet face and smile exudes the emotions of “playful and lighthearted.”)
Supplies:

·   Digi and Sentiments- Beccy’s Place Digital Stamp Set (Fairy Folk)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Patterned paper and Crown Sticker- Hobby Lobby

·   Pioneer Black Photo corners- available from several sources

·   Glitter, a scrap of ribbon, and other items from my stash.

I’ve been a DT member for the challenge at QKR Stampede for several years. The web-based company was recently purchased by a company named Want2Scrap.  As the name reflects, the site now offers a large assortment of items that scrappers will love, plus they still sell many popular stamp lines including QKR Stampede, Eureka, Biblical Impressions and others. (Please note that they have transferred most of their inventory to the website, but are still working on adding more. So make sure to stop in a few times and see “what’s new!”  Also, stop by the QKR Stampede Challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself?
This card went together really quickly with two Eureka sentiments, a scrap of star-patterned paper, some bling, and a simple t-shirt template that I sketched to fit an A2-sized card front and envelope. (I plan to use this template again in the future for other holidays, etc. So… watch for it!)

Several years ago, when I first discovered digi stamps, I stumbled upon a wonderful blog hosted by a generous woman named Paulette, that offered lots of free sentiments and other digis. She also sold digi sets packed with lots of images, sentiments and even backgrounds on Etzy! You can find the freebies HERE, and on FB HERE (includes LOTS of items for journaling) and items for sale (plus a few more freebies) HERE . (Notice- you might want to grab a hot beverage before you visit the sites because I can spend blocks of time oohing, ahhing, downloading items and shopping! So fun!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Snippets (which is a favorite challenge of mine that helps me to use up my ever-growing stash of scraps, aka snippets! I slid the remainder of the scraps I used in my card beneath it in a photo. I really like several of those papers so am glad that I have some snippets left. I also had doing a bit of paper-piecing with the plaid scrap on the bottom cup. And the "tooled leather" looking paper is actually scraps from a partial roll of vinyl wall paper that I found at Goodwill years ago.)

·   Digi- TlcCreations digi set- Coffee Time (Retired. But check out a great new coffee set HERE!)

myasperations 6-13-23

Last week I saw this package of yummy Root Beer Barrels and immediately thought of my Dad.  He LOVED these candies and also the liquid version, so I have fond childhood memories of regularly enjoying both!  For that reason I made this card in honor of Fathers Day!
I’m entering it into several challenges including Cupcake Inspirations: Fathers Day/Masculine; Inspiration Station: Photo (The setting sun inspires me for the following reasons- Holidays, Memories, and Emotions. My dad also loved the 4th of July, which we celebrated every year at an uncle’s farm in Iowa. I remember how our excitement level would sky-rocket as we shopped for fireworks. Then, the afternoon of the 4th we’d each get our own “punk” to light hundreds of firecrackers and smoke bombs. As sundown approached, our excitement peaked because that is when the Sparklers, Bottle Rockets, Roman Candles and Fountains filled the air with snaps, crackles and pops… and whooshes and bangs! These are some of my most cherished memories.); Path Of Positivity Challenge: Inspired by a Pattern (I selected plaid paper that is similar to the pattern across the top of the candy bag); and Park Hopping-My Happy Place:(Mels Drive in At Universal Studio Florida sells amazing Root Beer Floats.)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Bag of candy- from local gas station
