The 15th of the month finds me making a DT card
for the challenge at QKR Stampede. Stop by the challenge,
which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be
inspired to enter a card or two yourself?
I used
the digi named Birthday Bear, adding realism to the balloon with a scrap of a red
plastic index
divider sheet. (If
you’ve followed my blog you’ll know that I use these wonderful gems a lot! They
are sometimes called document file folders- come in a pack of assorted colors
and can be found in the office supply section of many stores, including dollar stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and more
translucent. Punches and dies don’t work on these sheets, but they are easy to
fussy-cut with a sharp pair of scissors and you can write on them a black
permanent fine-line marker.) I laid a scrap of red plastic atop of the balloon
and traced it onto the plastic, cut it out then adhered it atop the white
balloon with small strips of double-stick tape. I also used a scrapbook heart template
and the permanent marker to trace then cut a heart from the red plastic to layer
behind the QKR sentiment on the inside of the card.

The snowy background paper
is a freebie from a company named Free Pretty Things For You (FPTFY), which
offers a treasure trove of patterned papers (and
many of them are free!) The one on this card is from a set of freebies (six
different designs) named “Winter Wonderland.” I printed one of the snowy
backgrounds in i’s original tones of blue, plus printed one in greyscale. Cut
into thin strips and woven together it creates a beautiful base for the sweet hot
chocolate digi from The Paper Shelter. Nummy!!

My final card for this post was created for the
current 31 nights of Halloween challenge on the Whimsy Stamps Blog. I
have quite a few Whimsy digital images plus several clear stamp sets. However,
not many of them are Halloween-themed. So, I had fun trying to envision ways to
use a few of the ones I have for Halloween Cards. Here is the first of those re-purposed
cards! Named “Toilet Paper Dudley” this wonderful digi is a freebie that our
friends at Whimsy developed to send Dudley to the rescue with a bit of humor
during the awful toilet paper shortage of 2020! In my Halloween card, he
continues to add some humor to what could be a difficult situation! I seldom
use colored pencils but thought they might add a sparkly-rough texture to the
cute dragon's scales… and I think they worked. The sentiments are computer-generated
(I trimmed them into strips. Then for the front sentiment, I added “serrations”
with pencil marks, then smushed, and tore the ends before wrapping them around the
front digi panel and adhering them in place. The inside sentiment label is from
my scrapbook stash.
