It’s October!

It’s the 1st of the month so time for another challenge at QKR Stampede. Stop by the challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself?

In August I made a beautiful Monarch butterfly bookmark… and liked it so much that I made a different version, this time using digi named “Butterfly Pattern.” I printed the digi onto white cardstock and colored it with alcohol markers and a white gel pen. Before fussy-cutting the image, I carefully attached squares of a clear Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheet to both the front and back, carefully pressing out any bubbles. When finished, I colored and fussy-cut the butterfly. I also scored and folded his body, then fussy-cut it, making sure not to accidentally cut off an antenna. I cut a strip of white cardstock slightly smaller than the width of the butterfly, and securely attached the flaps to each side of his folded wings, then adhered his body atop the wings with a hot glue gun. When finished, the sentiment was trimmed and added to the bookmark. I love the way the butterfly wings lay atop the pages of a closed book. So beautiful!
Note- My inspiration for this bookmark was a free template I received after joining Krista Leigh Smith’s Newsletter. Krista is the artist that created the classic Saturated Canary line of stamps. You can sign up for her newsletter and snag some of her amazing creations, too.)

Since it’s the first of the month, I’m also sharing my DT card for the October Sheepski Designs Challenge. This month’s theme is “Autumn/Halloweens” and I had fun making a fun card using a digi named “Ball Gown” and spooky background scene that is a freebie! (details in the supplies list.)  When coloring beauty in the ball gown I used a white gel pen to create touches of moonlight on her hair and in the folds of her gown. To add a pop of color to the card front, I cut an oval from a scrap of a purple plastic document sheet* and adhered it to the card front, then used foam tape to attach the fleeing beauty. The final touch of magic was to use Glossy Accents to attach some pretty deep purple and aqua/teal sequins that I purchased in late July. They are luscious!
*(These wonderful items come in a pack of assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores. I really like using them on my cards because they're cheaper than colored vellum and are more translucent.  You can write on them with a fine-line permanent marker and white gel pen. The plastic is also easy to fussy-cut with a nice, sharp pair of scissors.)

Incy Wincy Designs- Funny or Let’s Celebrate

I wanted to make another card for the Simon Says Monday Challenge, “Add A Photo.” So I dug through my collection of old calendars and found a few seasonal photos that were a perfect fit with this scripture sentiment. I made an A10 slim-line card that would display a long stretch of the photos. Snowy patterned paper, a wooden embellie, a sticker and a leaf stamp help finish off the card.
