My final entry into the Paper Shelter challenge, "Music or Dance" includes a sweet digi image from Beccy's Place named "Finns Scarf Set." In order to also enter the card into the Sketch Saturday challenge, I made the image into a tag, attached it atop another tag and tied them together with a few scraps of ribbon. The "Wish you a merry Christmas" song sentiment printed on vellum is from Lili of the Valleys digi set named "Christmas Wishes" that includes 29 sentiments!
The inside sentiment is from Whimsie Doodles, a web-based company that is sadly no longer in business. The musical notes on the lime colored background paper helps to reinforce The Paper Shelter theme and also pulls the card together.

I really enjoy the Twofers Challenge because it makes me think outside of the box, and also requires that I use stamps [not digis] or dies. More and more I find myself using digis and I sometimes forget how many other image options I have… if I get my fingers a bit inky. This months challenge is titled "Harvest." So I dug through my rubber and clear stamps looking for a few candidates that I could use to make "two different designs for two different occasions using the same stamps and/or dies." I decide upon the trio of pumpkins from an Inkadinkado Halloween themed clear set as my crossover image.
For the Halloween card, I stamped the pumpkins plus a sentiment from that set onto colored cardstock scraps, trimmed them into shape and set them aside. I made an A2 sized gatefold card with an octagonal shaped frame to hold the pumpkins. [There is no template or directions for this. I snipped and trimmed and sketched until I got it the way that I wanted.] Adhered a few strips of bold B&W background prints to the gatefolds. Made a belly band for the sentiment and added a few layers of additional fall colors. Who knew that Halloween could be elegant?
For the Thanksgiving Card, I used another clear set from Inkadinkado called " Harvest Expressions." Stamped the pumpkins and one of the sentiments from this set onto leaf covered patterned paper. Also stamped the image on orange vellum, fussy cut it, adhered it over the other image and added a few highlights with a white gel pen. Added some richness to the card with layers of royal colored cardstock. Added a strip of rich brown heavyweight cardstock, wrapped with gold metallic ribbon and gold and burgundy trim. The final touch was to add a bit of warm gleam by attaching a red "gem" to catch the light. The inside of the card includes two sentiments from a Power Poppy digi set named "Autumn Opulence." Opulence is the perfect description for this card, don't you think?

ReplyDeleteLovely, cute card. Thanks for joining us at The Paper Shelter this week.
ReplyDeleteYour twofer cards are both beautiful Kathy! You're right, I haven't seen a Halloween card that is so elegant. I LOVE that black and white patterned paper with the pumpkins on top. Great design with the gate fold. Speaking of elegant, your thanksgiving card is amazing. I love the pretty image with the pumpkins again ... great idea to use orange vellum to give them a different look. It's the finishing touches of the gorgeous trim and gem that make this card special. Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge!
ReplyDeleteFabulous cards Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you printed the sentiment directly onto the vellum for the first card, the banner shape is fabulous. I also like the double tag idea and the addition of the decorated sentiment on the inside of the card.
The pumpkins on your twofer cards are awesome, what a wonderful image! I love the idea of the challenge too, what a great way to get the most out of your stamps. You did a wonderful job with all the embellishments Kathy, I especially like the ribbon, braid and charm detail... opulent is definitely a good word for it. Well done!
Cheers,
Beccy

Very beautiful cards. We are so blessed you link your artwork with us last Challenge at Word Art Wednesday. There still a few days left for you to join us again in our current Challenge. Leaving you with the inspiration of the Scripture in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 which says, "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe." Have a blessed day!
