The sponsor this week
is Lemon Shortbread and my DT card features the sweet image “Rainy Days Girl.’” I knew I
wanted to create a reflection in the water so copied an extra image, cropped
off all but the boots, and flipped them in reverse. After coloring the image and
the extra set of boots, I fussy cut the extra boots and set them aside. Decorative
chalks, a makeup sponge, and a cloud template cut from a paper scrap helped me create
a cloudy sky behind the umbrella girl. When finished, I used an Exacto knife to
trim around the bottom of her boots, then positioned and adhered the reversed
boots to the bottom of the page. Next, I positioned a scrap of vellum over the reversed
boots, sliding it up under the girl’s boots. I colored the vellum, adding ripples
with several shades of blue markers and a white gel pen. The final touch of
realism was to add highlights to all the beautiful raindrops falling from the
sky and bouncing off her umbrella and on the water puddles with a white gel pen.
So fun!

I wanted to create a card for the Power Poppy
Challenge “Rock the Mojo” which required that I find a source of inspiration and let
it “help my mojo to bubble up to the surface to create!” I looked through my
photo files and found one that inspired me, it even features a Power Poppy digi
set. I was thrilled when I just discovered that it was created by one of my favorite Power Poppy DT's, Julie Koerber! I also wanted to make a card for the Outlawz Tuesday Color Challenge- Red,
White and a touch of green and knew that this sweet digi from Di’s Digi’s was the perfect fit! (After
I was finished I decided I might have added more than a touch of green… but I do
like the way it turned out!)

My final card for this posting went
together pretty quickly. I had found this free sentiment from Tlc Creations
some time ago, and decided that it was time to put it to use. Decided that I
wanted to paper piece a sock monkey. After a little research, plus memories of
the sock monkey that my mom made for me about 6 decades ago, I came up with a
sketch that served as my template. When looking for paper I could use, I was
excited to discover that I had a grey paper that resembled the mottled texture
of a real sock monkey! I wanted to be able to easily mail this card to my
youngest sister (who also had a beloved sock monkey) I punched circles from
black cardstock to make “buttons” for the eyes, using a mini-punch to add the
holes. I then sewed these on with thin white string. His nose and eye stitches
were added with a black marker, and red yarn finishes adds texture and realism to
the fun toy.
