Viva México

Did you know that today, September 16th is Mexican Independence Day? My first card for this post features a beautiful digi that was created in honor of Mexican Independence Day by As A Button’s founder/artist, Francesca Lopez. She is offering the digi free for a POP challenge on her FB page until 9-20-19. (You can find it HERE.)  I had fun coloring it with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. The colorful sentiment is from Dreamtime and the small Celebrate printed on vellum is cut from a scrapbook sticker. I wanted to make a colorful background and decided to dig into my folders of scraps to create this ornate background with paper strips using a tutorial I found HERE. I didn’t want the beautiful Senorita to be overwhelmed by the background, so I added a layer of vellum to the background before attaching her to the card. A handful of stars cut from yellow vellum filled in a few areas and made the card a bit more festive.

This card was created to enter into a fun FB event named “Spectember” sponsored for Spectrum Noir products. The Day 10 Challenge is Emboss. I chose to add dry embossing to the background of this card that features a cute digi from The Paper Shelter named “There’s A Penguin In My Cocoa.” I colored the digi with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen then layered the little cutie onto an oval cut from a blue plastic document folder. (NOTE- you can find details about this wonderful office supply staple in one of my blog posts last month. You can find it HERE.) The front of the card includes layers of snowflake patterned paper, white cardstock with embossed swirls, and photo corners made with squares of the blue plastic cut a diagonal slit into them and slid them onto the background layers. The inside sentiment is from a Lili of the Valley digi set named Christmas Wishes.

One of my favorite challenges is named The Butterfly Challenge, which offers the chance to play with butterflies! Who doesn’t love that?! It offers lots of prizes based on specific colors, themes, special card folds and also… a butterfly. My card features one theme (Layers) and a butterfly. The butterfly was cut with a die from double-sided adhesive. I lifted the butterfly image and filled the sticky areas with ultrafine black glitter. I removed other sections of the wing, filling the sticky areas with translucent shades of pink, lavender and aqua microfine glitter. When finished, I brushed off the extra glitter and used the instructions for creative fold (“Slit Clasp”) to add movement to the card. The sentiment is from a set named “Heartfelt” from We Are 3 Digital Sentiments (I separated one of the sets sentiments into two parts.)

  6. Love all these cards Kathy - especially your snippets one of course.Sheesh, your colouring is pretty amazing!!

Sorry it's taken me a while to comment - Dudley took a downward turn and has been quite poorly with what our vet says is gastroenteritis. We still feel it was the tick medication that caused it - toxins are a known cause of gastroenteritis. Thankfully he seem to be properly on the mend having had a jab to stop him being sick plus other meds to be taken daiy including anti-biotics and of course all our attention has been focused on him these past few days.

    Hugs
